4th Preliminary Task
Prelim Task 4:
Diegetic vs. Non-Diegetic Sound Test:
We had to Film a short, simple action (e.g., a character opening a door, walking down a corridor). And edit the 20-second sequence twice:
In Cut 1: we had to use only diegetic sound (sound originating from the world of the film, like footsteps, a creaking door).
In Cut 2 : we had to add a non-diegetic sound (like a dramatic musical score or a sound effect not originating from the scene) to drastically change the mood of the same sequence.
(This is the link of the task I filmed)
In this video, I filmed my cousin who was running in a panic state as if someone was chasing her, when she reaches her home and locks the door, she takes a sigh of relief….
In the first cut the sound was diegetic like the footsteps, door closing sounds and heavy breathing sounds.
In the second and third I added different dramatic background music.
